Classic Hand Embroidery Pashmina Shawl For Women, Katraaz Design

A unique piece from our embroidery pashmina shawl collection.

Feature of Design

Khatraaz is a striped pattern traditionally used for dresses and garments, which later became a popular design for pashmina shawl and pashmina scarf making.

The stunning black and white stripes are made separately and sewed together, technique used in the old times to allow several artists working in parallel, so they can each work on varieties of design patterns, which are later sewed together to create a full design.

Today this technique is revisited by the young designers to create exciting, diversified new looks in cashmere shawl.

Including patch work in the process of making a shawl requires extra time and labor with special skills, but also open up to endless new possibilities.

Feels extremely soft and warm.

Story of Amlikar Embroidery Pashmina Shawls

the Origin

First emerged in 17th century as a way to replicate Kani shawl designs, embroidery shawls soon became popular for shawl makers, as a more affordable and time efficient alternative.

the Process

Designs are hand pressed on woven pashmina fabric, using a speical charcoal based ink, then passed on to the embroidery artist, who will spend hundreds to thousands of hours stitching the designs. An Amlikar shawl with complex design and color palette can take 12-18 months to complete.

Our selection of embroidery shawls range from the basic, classic designs that are wearable every day, to couture quality shawls that are unique and collectible.

Today embroidery is mostly done using cotton or silk threads. Silk embroidery shawls are highly desirable as they are extremely light, intricate and luxurious looking.

Wash separately by hand in cold water, use soft detergent. Lay flat to dry, stretch on the four corners gently to bring it back to the original form. Press with steam or iron if necessary.

For embroidery shawls, especially silk embroidery shawls we recommend professional dry clean to avoid shrinkage.

Like any natural fibers, it just needs a little care and love to remain fabulous for a long time!
